Dan DooLing a child entrepreneur organized events such as; carnivals, puppet shows, lemonade stands, art shows, picked up aluminum cans, and had a paper route. I am sure you can relate to that type of spirit, right? Life was awesome, sailing and playing golf year-round in South Florida, and oh yeah, there was school.  Yes, I did buy the sailboat when I was 12.

Term in Service: After graduating from High School, I enlisted in the Navy (USN) as a Mess Specialist (Cook). My thinking at that time was with my experience the Navy will hire me, so naive; I started cooking around the age of 5, professionally age 13, and managed my first restaurant by the age of 16. Yes, I was well a head for my age. Upon completion of the Naval Cook School in San Diego, CA., Doorway, I received orders for Flag Duty in Norfolk, VA. (Norfolk)? “Flag duty” I thought! I was a “Cook”, waking up before the crack of dawn to raise the Flag was not my idea of fun! As it turned out, I was assigned to a Three Star Admiral (Admiral) at the Command Naval Air Force Atlantic Fleet. My sea duty well, consisted of cocktails on the yacht in the summertime. After 2.5 years of shore duty, my new orders came in and I was assigned to the USS God Bless America (America). America was heading out for a Mediterranean tour of duty, and Singapore, Australia etc. The Admiral asked if I would stay and work for him instead of going out to sea however, I declined. He looked at me puzzled. I needed to see what the navy was really like, no just cocktails on the yacht in the summertime. After an 8-month deployment, 70-75 days without the sight of land, I return to port in Norfolk, I contacted the Admiral to see if the offer to work for him was still open. I finished my tour working for the Admiral and I thought Life could not be or get any better, so we think? I was asked if I would reenlist for 4 more years, for a tour at the White House? “The White House”, again I had to decline the offer and the Admiral looked at me puzzled, again? First, I did not think I could stay out of trouble even at the White House* But, I could not either see making a career with the Navy after the recent deployment. There was actually a movie made about a White House Butler that worked from President Truman through Ronald Reagan called “The Butler”. His name was Mr. Daniels, and I would have arrived as he was leaving. Who knows, maybe Hollywood could have made a sequel about me “Daniel”?

Honorable: Discharged from the Navy Honorably, I began my civilian life working at Marriott Hotels and then Victoria a Station as a restaurant manager. But working 80 to 90 hours a week just was not my thing either! Left the restaurant industry and went to work for an air freight forwarding company. One particular question they asked during that interview that has remained with me to this day, “could I drive a 30’ box truck?” I said, yes of course, I never drove anything bigger than a pickup, but I knew that I could figure that out, no fear. “We need to be more afraid of what we do know, then what we do not know”! In 1984, Then the door, I was offered a Tech position with Xerox Corporation, not in Virginia but back in the town I grew up in, Miami Fl., known as the cocaine capital of the world. I guess the Divine has bigger plans than me.

Divine Design: Back on the Xerox farm, in 1985, I received my first paycheck it was half the amount I was offered. Inquiring with HR I was informed that Xerox decided to start a two-tier program, which meant they hired two people for the price of one. So, I asked the next sensible question, since someone is getting half my check, I should be their boss, right? Not happy, I waited for the next door to open. If we are patient and wait long enough the right door always open. November 1987, a friend called and asked if I wanted to make some extra monies? I responded yes “is it legal? After all it was Miami, right? I started unloaded trucks at 4:30 am, set stage, flew lights, work the set change between acts and was on stage talking Motley Crew (old school band), and then reversed the process closed the last door on the truck at 4:00 am. It was the longest best day of my life. The Door Opened, I left Xerox and climb the ladder in the entertainment business, and within 2 years I was doing production for some of the biggest names in the industry. Oh Yeah, life was awesome, and I had plans for the future and my mentor at the times advise was, “Never count your chickens before the eggs hatch”. Then, in 1993 the economy turned south, and no shows hit the road.  And I had to get a real job. I began working in the engineering department for a healthcare facility.

Netscape released the same year and by1996 the number of people using the web (what it was called back in the day) soared from 16 to 70 million users. I decided to enroll in college to learn about computers. I thought there might be a future in computers, you think I was right? It was there I was introduced to Adobe Dream Weaver – Web Design Software. I began exploring web design and internet marketing. It was during that class I designed my first website for pet products, I was hooked, and a door opened.

Netscape the health care industry with a 2-year degree in hand and I went to work for a company that sold SEO to professionals (Doctors, Dentists, Attorneys), they had money to recycle. The man I worked for at the time, who I liked to refer to as one of my Mentors (Mentor), and he mentored me in multiple areas, not just internet marketing. I will talk further about the importance of Mentors later.

A takeaway from him was many things but one important saying was; if a webpage does not show up on the first page of a search engine, you might as well have a billboard in outer space and pray that somebody finds it. Today it is the first 3-5 positions.

The Decades: In 2000, a door opened when the government hired me to work on computers as a Building Systems Operator. Shortly after starting they removed the computer and told me to just answer the phone if it rings. I felt like the Maytag repairman because the phone hardly rang. But that was ok, the door opened to allow me to continue my studies at work and do my internet thing at home after work.

I started building a membership site and other websites and then 2004 Social Media came about, and I had to learn an additional marketing platform. It was not easy working alone, so much to learn and technology began changing overnight and research and development are time-consuming without help so I started working with a mentor to learn.

However, my story is nothing new, in fact, you may even be able to relate to my story, and if you can, you need to understand one thing. there is only one person who could do something about my life, and that person is ME!

Certainly not my boss, family, not even the President, it was all down to me! This is what you must understand. Only one person who can change your life, is YOU!

The takeaway: the only time I accelerated and grew in knowledge is when I had my Mentor(s). And I have had several through the years and will I plan to have more in the future. There is so much information out there and far less time available to stay ahead of the curve trying to figure Life out not to mention the online Life. We are moving faster and faster down the information highway; it is not easy to keep up. This is why I encourage everyone to found your Mentor. Mentoring is so powerful and is an exchange of knowledge between people(s), who have greater knowledge, wisdom, or experience. Mentoring is two-way communication. I learn from my Mentor and my Mentor learns from. It is a Win-Win!

Life: Is meant to be enjoyed “My Motto is Let go with the flow and Life Happens”. I think Richard Branson said it best! “If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes- then learn how to do it later!” I quoted Sir Richard Branson, because we should never be afraid of what we do not know; be more afraid of what we do know!

Sure, I am here to guide and teach, but your success is in your hands and nothing could change that! You have to begin to understand the energy of the internet, and more importantly what this information age has to offer, and a better life for us all… We are all lucky to be living now, 10 years ago this sort of Lifestyle was not possible! But now it is possible for each and every one of us to become a huge success, because of the internet and the fact that people will pay for information, it can only get bigger in the future. The internet is creating successful, wealthy people on a daily basis.

I know you have what it takes to become a success, or you wouldn’t be reading this far down the page, this alone proves that you have the desire to succeed and as one of my blog readers, my aim is to and at the very least, put you on the road to success. If there is ever, anything I can do to help you and simply the road to success, get in touch and I’ll do my very best to help.
